Which HSC subjects help for commerce?
Maths Advanced or Extension 1 is the most important subject for commerce entry. Finance, economics, and accounting all use calculus and statistics in first year. Students who take Extension 1 or 2 enter with a clear advantage over those who only completed Standard Maths.
Economics and Business Studies are useful background subjects, but neither scales as well as the maths subjects. If you are choosing between Business Studies and Maths Extension 1, the maths does more for both your ATAR and your university performance.

Your ATAR is calculated from your best 10 units of HSC subjects, scaled by subject difficulty. Choosing the right subjects and performing consistently is more important than cramming in Year 12.
LearnCore students in Year 11 and 12 work with tutors who topped their own HSC subjects. If you are aiming for a competitive ATAR, starting specialist tutoring early in Year 11 gives you the most time to build the skills the HSC actually rewards.
